Peter Saxe - piano
George Fludas - drums
Larry Kohut - bass
Peter Saxe has been sharing his unique interpretations of jazz classics and standards with audiences around the world for more than three decades. His piano artistry creates a delicate intimacy with audiences, whether a table of two at a quiet club, a private salon, or a concert for 1,000. He finds in performance an opportunity to express pure joy and love for music, and a chance to share his delight in the lyric and rhythm of his favorite compositions.
Drawn first to the rhythmic heartbeat of jazz, he found inspiration in Ron Carter’s driving, iconic bass lines and the razor sharp rhythms of Chick Corea’s. His music builds on the foundations of the masters, even as he speaks with his own voice. He described his muse thus: “Music reveals itself in the sacred spaces between notes, like the interplay of light and shadow in a painting. When I’m able to wait patiently in the silences, the music inevitably unfolds on its own.”
He is well known in Chicago for leading the Peter Saxe Trio, playing the Green Mill Lounge with luminary Howard Levy, and inspiring young musicians as a longstanding faculty member at Columbia College Chicago. He has been heard internationally at the Banff Vocal Festival with Vertical Voices and with the Chicago Jazz Ensemble, (Jon Faddis, artistic director), with jazz illuminati Randy Brecker, Tom Harrell, Slide Hampton, Eric Alexander and Joe Lovano.
